Automattic Acquires Gravatar
So for people who don’t know Automattic is the company that developed WordPress and Gravatar is a company that tried to develop a globally-recognized avatar system. Gravatar did a pretty good job but now that Automattic has acquired Gravatar I think more people will jump on board. I have already downloaded the Gravatar plugin for WordPress and it works great. Now when you leave a comment your email address can be associated with an avatar on the Gravatar system. Does this make any sense?
Here is the about blurb from Gravatar:
Claim your Identity
The web is no longer about anonymous content generated by faceless corporations. It is about real people and the real content that they provide.
It is about you.
But as powerful as the web has become, it still lacks the personal touch that comes from a handshake. The vast majority of content you come across on the web will still be near-anonymous even though it may have a name attached. Without knowing the author behind the words, the words cannot be trusted. This is where Gravatar comes in.
Gravatar aims to put a face behind the name. This is the beginning of trust. In the future, Gravatar will be a way to establish trust between producers and consumers on the internet. It will be the next best thing to meeting in person.
Today, an avatar. Tomorrow, Your Identityâ€â€Online.
So please, if you haven’t done so yet visit Gravatar today and sign up, it only takes a minute. Once you sign up and upload your avatar leave a comment on this post using the email address you signed up with Gravatar and you should see your avatar next to your comment.
Wings Awards 2007
Last night Ronda and I got dressed up and attended the 2007 Wings Awards. The Wings association was founded in 1992 by five of Huntsville’s performing arts groups and The Arts Council to improve production levels and to foster cooperation among the performing groups. Membership has ebbed and flowed over the years, but now stands at eight performing groups, plus The Arts Council. The awards categories have also changed dramatically throughout the years and are still evolving. Currently, awards are given in 27 acting, directing, and technical categories.
Ronda and I were both nominated for a Wings Awards. Ronda was nominated for hair in To Kill A Mockingbird and I was nominated for sound in Always, Patsy Cline. Unfortunately Ronda did not win for hair but she was just happy to be nominated. I, with much surprise won a Wings Award for best sound in Always, Patsy Cline. I was very surprised and very unprepared to give any type of speech. It was an honor to win and I am happy that Ronda introduced me to theatre.

TGIM
Yes, thank God it’s Monday. Some people say the weekend goes by quickly, I say it couldn’t go by fast enough. We spent most of the weekend packing and preparing to move. Most of the packing was easy until we got to Ronda’s office. Then it was like time wasn’t moving at all, the day felt like weeks. We removed twelve bags of trash, packed ten boxes of books, and three boxes of random bullshit. We still haven’t ventured into the closet.
On Sunday evening I was able to step away and work on sound cues for Macbeth, the Renaissance Theatre play I am doing in late October, early November. After that I headed over to Ronda’s parents house to enjoy some juicy hamburgers.
Now it’s Monday and boy does it feel like a Monday.
Busy Weekend
So just to let everyone know, this weekend is going to be extremely busy. I will be packing as much possible. I hope to get a large chunk of stuff packed this weekend and next. My plan is to have everything that can be packed ready to go out the door the day we close on the home loan. I will have a weekend review post up sometime on Monday. Have a great weekend.
