If you follow me via Twitter you will know that I mentioned buying a web hosting company. We (451 Press) are in the process of acquiring a medium size web hosting company. Why? It an internet thing I guess. It will diversify our income stream so that we aren’t relying on just ad income via the blog network. More to come when the deal is inked and final.

I’m back

Since January 11th, the post about the madness I haven’t posted very much. I have been extremely busy. I have had a lot going on at work and have been doing sound for the latest Theatre Huntsville production. Anytime I’m doing a show I lose two to three weeks easy. But, enough excuses, I’m back and will post on more of a regular basis, I promise.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 21, 2008 · Filed Under General · Comment

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968), was one of the main leaders of the American civil rights movement. King was a Baptist minister, one of the few leadership roles available to black men at the time. He became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955 - 1956) and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (1957), serving as its first president. His efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. Here he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history. In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means.

King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter in 1977. Martin Luther King Day was established as a national holiday in the United States in 1986. In 2004, King was posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.

The Madness

January 11, 2008 · Filed Under General · 2 Comments

Ok, my site has been down for two days. Why? The data center in Atlanta, known as GNAX went down Wednesday. When it went down, it brought all its host down with it. My servers at 451 Press went down and my personal servers. I have seven (7) servers hosted with Dixie Systems and four (4) personal servers hosted with Jaguar PC. All but one server hosted with Dixie Systems came up before I even knew they were down. But, it didn’t take long at all for Dixie Systems to have that one server back up and running. Now, Jaguar PC on the other hand is a different story. To keep this short, it took Jaguar two days to get my servers back up after I submitted multiple tickets. Once the servers were finally up, I realized that I had lost everything on my server that had my blog, Ronda’s blog, and Scout’s blog.

After much work and digging, I was able to recover most of my blog and Ronda’s blog from my own back-ups. I was not however able to recover anything from Scout’s blog. Ronda’s has a post about it at her site.

I don’t know if I should be pissed at myself or Jaguar PC? All I know is it sucks to lose your site. All I can say is backup, hard drives are cheap and most computers these days hold gigabytes. I am putting some type of backup system in place this weekend to backup the sites daily. Until then, please pardon the mess.
